A Madera man and former transit union secretary-treasurer pleaded guilty Monday to embezzling more than $41,000 from the union and to access device fraud.
Adam C. Raimer, 43, was the former secretary-treasurer of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1027 in Fresno. He represented bus drivers, dispatchers and mechanics of MV Transportation in Fresno and Tulare, as well as bus drivers employed by the City of Fresno.
Raimer admitted to making unauthorized purchases for his own use while he was still employed by the union, attorney Benjamin B. Wagner said. Raimer bought big screen TVs, cameras and a GPS navigator from Office Depot. He also used a union account to pay his personal cellphone bill and PG&E utility bill. The purchases continued after he was terminated.
Raimer will be sentenced Jan. 14, 2014. The maximum penalty for embezzlement from a union is five years in prison and 10 years in prison for the access device fraud. The sentence will be determined by the court after any number of variables are taken into account, such as statutory factors. Raimer will be sentenced by Judge Lawrence J. O’Neill.
