"Take our country back." So reads the tea party bumper sticker. As if their country has been stolen. As if America is solely theirs and not of all the people.
We may never know the origin of the mental warp and escape from reality that motivates these domestic terrorists. Demographics that show America turning black and brown may have a lot to do with it. They are afraid. For decades, the man in the White House was white. The fear even extends to the possibility of a woman president.
The recent tea party efforts to bring down the Obama-led government failed miserably. Even respectable Sen. John McCain spoke about the shameful tea party conduct that has harmed the Republican Party. It was an exercise in futility. No side benefitted, and it cost the country $24 billion. Sen. Ted Cruz led the negative fight to kill the Affordable Care Act. But remember, the tea party Americans are those who want to destroy the government.
Many years ago, in high school, my civics teacher told us that trying to bring down the government was treason. We learned that those who commit treason were shot by firing squad.
