Another homeless encampment sent to the Dumpster. More homeless people moving around town looking for a place to crash. In my neighborhood, a homeless man is back after being gone a year, no doubt because his camp got torn down. He sits on a busy corner panhandling in the late morning and early afternoon. Then, mid afternoon, after he has collected enough money and is too drunk to beg anymore, he sleeps in the landscaping of the adjacent business.
The buck stops at the mayor. It is time for Mayor Ashley Swearengin to state her and the city's intentions. Is she hoping that they'll leave town? Does she hope they'll decide they don't want to be homeless anymore? Does she want them to decide they are done with addiction and mental illness? It is time to be a "strong mayor." No more statements from contract attorneys, city managers or Police Chief Jerry Dyer.
We need to know what Mayor Swearengin's intentions are! My neighbors and I are tired of her herding the homeless to our neighborhood.
