What I find most disturbing is the reluctance on the part of the tea party, the fundamentalists and Republicans in general to confront, recognize and deal with facts in a realistic and pragmatic manor. Facts are facts, and that's all there is to it. What the human race is today is the contemporary result of more than 4 million years of primate evolution. The recent find in Georgia (reported in The Bee) of 1.8 million years old is another in a long line of so-called missing links. There will be others. These are objective facts.
The Republican mantra of personal responsibility is a subjective truth and a truth that I'm in complete agreement with. Subjective truth depends on free will. The idea that human beings are more than what has made us. That we are more than Pavlovian responses to stimulus. That we as human beings can control how our lives turn out in spite of the most egregious circumstances. This is existentialism. Welcome to my world.
