Edison, atop the Central Section marquee, and McLane, with little attention, nonetheless march into games Thursday night with something in common — tied for their league lead.
Edison, top-ranked in the section and No. 20 in the state, is 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the County/Metro Athletic Conference entering a game with Madera (2-5, 0-2) at Sunnyside Stadium. The Tigers have defeated the Coyotes 69-27, 35-34 and 35-34 since Madera joined the CMAC in 2010.
Edison is tied for first in the league with section No. 9 Bullard (6-1, 2-0), which will play No. 19 Sanger (5-2, 1-1) on Friday at McLane. Edison and Bullard will close the regular season Nov. 8 at Sunnyside. The section playoff seedings for all six divisions are the next day.
McLane (4-3, 2-0), coming off a 31-28 win over Roosevelt, will play at home Thursday night against Fresno (2-5, 0-2) in the North Yosemite League, where the Highlanders are tied with Sunnyside (4-3, 2-0). The Wildcats (4-3, 2-0) will play at home Thursday night against neighbor Roosevelt (3-4, 1-1) before visiting McLane next week.
Thursday night's play in the section will also match Granite Hills (0-7, 0-2) and Sierra Pacific (1-6, 0-2) in an East Sequoia League game at Hanford's Neighbor Bowl.
