SPECIAL TO THE BEE

The new Kings River Bridge opened this week, allowing visitors easier access to Cedar Grove in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and extending the area's use through Nov. 11.

During construction, Cedar Grove visitors and campers had to take a short detour to use area concessions, spokeswoman Dana Dierkes said.

The park had originally scheduled for the grove to close Oct. 15; however, with the bridge's completion, that date was pushed back four weeks.

Cedar Grove remains open for day use only through Nov. 11.

Caltrans is set to close Highway 180 at the gate south of Yucca Point at noon Nov. 12.
