"Rocky Horror" and Halloween go together like Brad and Janet.
Or maybe that should be like Brad, Janet and Dr. Frank-N-Furter. With a "sweet transvestite" in the mix, things can get a little kinky.
Just like last year, Fresno is getting a double "Rocky" dose with the Halloween season. The classic 1975 film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" will be screened in a midnight showing Saturday at Warnors Theatre. Five nights later, Artists' Repertory Theatre opens its returning live production of "The Rocky Horror Show" on Halloween Night at the Severance Theatre.
Here's a rundown:
-- Doors will open at 10 p.m. Saturday for the midnight movie screening with live music and DJs. Events include a costume contest with prizes and a "fun and frisky pre-show" at 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. Info: warnors.org and (559) 264-2848.
-- Cast members from the Artists' Repertory Theatre live stage production will be on hand to meet audience members before the movie.
-- The stage production, directed by Daniel Chavez Jr., is becoming a Fresno tradition. This will be the fourth incarnation of the show in five years. It will run through Nov. 16 at the Severance Theatre, and then return for a New Year's Eve run Dec. 27-31.
Chavez returns for the fourth time in his signature portrayal of Frank-N-Furter, the devious transvestite who entraps hapless visitors Brad and Janet in a weird and campy world.
Once again, "goodie bags" will be available for $5 containing the approved items that may be thrown at the stage in this often raucous experience in audience participation.
Three cast members in major roles return this year: Javier Padilla, who plays Rocky; Lily Murray, who plays Dr. Scott; and Katherine Dorian, who last year played Magenta and shifts this year into the role of Janet.
Shaking things up are Terry Lewis as Brad, Peter Allwine as Riff Raff, Danielle Jorn as Magenta, Sarah Waxman as Columbia, Jonathan Wheeler as Eddie and Carl Waxman as the Narrator.
Tickets are $20, $15 students and seniors, with the Halloween and New Year's Eve shows priced at $28.
