A vehicle stop along Highway 99 Tuesday landed one man in jail after 22 pounds of crystal methamphetamine were allegedly found in his possession.
The man was stopped at Highway 99 near Avenue 24 late Tuesday afternoon. The illegal drug carries a street value of $220,000, authorities said.
The 30-year-old suspect, who is from Stockton, was booked into Madera County Jail on suspicion of drug trafficking, said Erica Stuart, spokeswoman for the Madera County Sheriff's Department. His bail was set at $1 million.
Highway 99 has become a major thoroughfare for drug trafficking in the state, Stuart said.
