The front page of Thursday's Bee showed House Speaker John Boehner pumping his fist with a smirk on his face. He said they had fought the good fight. What the good fight actually did was hurt the Republican Party big time.
It hurt the economy, caused pain for many communities and families, caused the stock market to sputter, closed the national parks, gave government employees a 16-day paid vacation at taxpayer expense, caused the dollar to fall, and put the world on notice that we have a lot of buffoons in Washington. And then they went back home for a four-day weekend to see what their so-called constituents think.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know what they are thinking. Since our legislators are having a hard time walking and chewing gum, maybe President Obama could wait until we have a budget and a debt ceiling before throwing in immigration reform.
