A recent Bee editorial blamed the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) party and Republicans for the inconveniences to the public caused by the so-called shutdown of the government. Let's re-examine the events preceding the temporary reduction of government services.
The Republican majority House of Representatives passed a budget funding all government functions except Obamacare.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid arrogantly warned that the proposed budget would be "dead on arrival" indicating that Democrats would vote en-bloc to kill the bill. Mr. Reid would not even consider compromise, adamantly refusing to meet with Republicans to resolve differences.
The "reach across the aisle, bipartisan cooperation" mantra was abandoned in preference for obstinate partisanship, and Democrats again united to thwart the will of the American people whom they claim to serve.
President Obama -- he of "hope and change" -- accused Republicans of "my-way-or-the-highway" tactics saying there would be no hope, no change -- his way or no way.
Thus, it appears that the Senate and White House Democrats, not the tea party, not Republicans, were the causes of the shutdown and its two-week continuance.
