Tripoli Rocketry Association of Central California is hosting a high-power rocketry event this weekend just south of Kerman.
A variety of rockets will be launched, everything from tiny low-power rockets on "A" motors to high-power rockets up to an "M" class motor.
Low-power rockets are welcomed but may require a quick inspection, spokesman Michael Hubble said.
Tripoli organizes launches once a month, but this special three-day weekend (launches began Friday) is the group's October Skies event including a Saturday night launch from an alfalfa field on the Maddox Dairy land near West Kamm Avenue and South Lassen Avenue.
Club president Jack Garibaldi said the group has an FAA waiver to allow launches up to nearly 17,000 feet.
