A motorcycle rider died in a crash near Squaw Valley just after 4 p.m. Thursday.
The man appeared to be in his 40s to 50s, said California Highway Patrol officer Chris Martorana. The rider's name has not been released, pending notification of his family.
The man was traveling east on Highway 180 and went to make a right turn to head south on Ruth Hill Road when his motorcycle ran off the road and down an embankment, Martorana said.
Witnesses said the man was traveling at about 60 mph when he crashed. The man died at the scene, Martorana said.
