Brittany Black had nine kills and Cassie Simons four aces as state seventh-ranked Fresno City College swept West Hills 3-0 on Wednesday night in a Central Valley Conference women's volleyball match.
Alyssa Jones contributed eight digs for the Rams, who improved to 6-0 in the conference and 12-4 overall. Fresno City is a match up on second-place Porterville, the latter's lone loss a three-set sweep at the hands of the Rams to start the month.
Fresno City is third in the latest Northern California regional rankings.
The Falcons fell to 0-6 in the CVC and 0-11 overall.
Porterville kept pace by sweeping Merced 25-6, 25-8, 25-9. The Pirates (10-7, 5-1) are No. 19 in the state and seventh in NorCal. Porterville hosts Fresno City on Oct. 30.
Krieghoff-led Cal Poly in Big West title chase
Cal Poly's women's soccer team, led by national scoring leader Elise Krieghoff, will look to continue its Big West Conference title run in its final two regular-season home matches.
Krieghoff, the ex-Buchanan High star, got the golden goal as the Mustangs (7-7, 3-1) beat Hawaii 3-2 on Sunday to gain a share of the league lead. The sophomore has a program single-season record 16 goals and is tied for fourth on Cal Poly's career list with 27.
Cal State Fullerton (6-4-4, 1-1-1) visits Friday and UC Riverside (6-8-1, 3-1) on Sunday.
