The government shutdown and the debt ceiling are being overplayed by both sides. This is a cultural issue more than anything else; it's how you view your government. The Friday front-page article in The Bee where the guy is selling his boat "because of the shut-down" shows the clear cultural contrast. It's only been a week, they haven't missed a check and back pay is always given, but it's "poor me."
Welcome to our world, of the working people, we don't have your government pay, benefits, and your excessive days off but we pay for yours, and we don't get "back pay."
The president shut down all the national parks, but rangers are still working. Veterans are denied entrance to World War II memorials while Mexican nationals get parks access to hold an "immigration rally." What's the difference between veterans for America and illegals against America demanding citizenship? One will vote Democrat.
The Republicans, however noble in trying to curb debt, were clumsy and outplayed by Obama-crats. Their demand should be that everybody (Congress and all federal employees) be required to enroll in Obamacare.
Uncle Sam is your uncle, not your daddy and he's broke.
