A Bass Lake woman who allegedly punched a man in a wheelchair and set her dog on a law enforcement officer was arrested Saturday.
Officials say Gwen Lucille Sherrell, 52, was witnessed standing in the middle of the street near her home when she began yelling swear words. Police say she then assaulted a man in a wheelchair, punching him twice in the face.
When a sheriff's deputy arrived on the scene, Sherrell was found blocking both lanes of traffic and shouting out more obscenities at a nearby wedding party.
The deputy then tried to detain her, but she ran off and allegedly commanded her pit bull mix to attack. Officials say the deputy shot at the dog, grazing its ear before it took off after Sherrell.
She was finally arrested an hour later and transported to the Madera County Department of Corrections. Her bail is set at $10,000.
