I can't believe that during this shutdown our soldiers' families were being disrespected by not being paid their death benefits until President Obama signed a bill restoring them on Thursday.
What bothers me more is the fact that even during regular business hours and no shutdown, when a brave young man or woman gets killed in our name, their family still has to pay for plane tickets and funerals. Why are these services not provided by national companies and airlines for these families at no cost?
Shutdown or not, the families have to pay? Didn't their sons, daughters, husbands or wives give enough already? What abut the children? Aren't we taking thousands of dollars away from their future to pay for plane tickets and funerals instead of that money being used for education?
I hope corporate America and this country is as ashamed of this as I am.
