A 70-year-old woman who died in a fatal traffic accident Friday afternoon east of Selma has been identified, the Fresno County Coroner's Office said.
Petra Mateos was driving south on Bethel Avenue at about 4 p.m. when she rolled through a stop sign into the intersection with Dinuba Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Patrick Etchebarne. The intersection is not a four-way stop. A GMC Yukon utility vehicle driven east by a 17-year-old Selma girl collided with the Toyota Camry's driver side, Etchebarne said.
The force of the collision pushed the Toyota Camry into a fruit tree. Etchebarne said Mateos was taken to Selma Community Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
