I've been following the Fresno County Board of Supervisors' saga against First 5 Fresno County's building downtown through the local media. With prison realignment, health crisis in the jail and infant mortality rising in Fresno County, the board should have enough issues of its own. I highly encourage the board to take care of the problems facing the county rather than attacking First 5 as a means to take attention off issues they are unwilling to handle.
Growth in the downtown Fresno area has been wanted for years and First 5 is offering child care along with other family services to the city and now the board is trying to stop this? This isn't about a "private bathroom" or a "fountain," but rather a personal vendetta wagered by three of the board members against the needs of the children of this county.
First 5 Fresno County has done a wonderful job of supporting young children in this county for more than 13 years with little direction from this board. I would suggest that the board tends to its own business for the county and allow First 5 to continue to offer excellent support for our children and their families.
