The final date for the public to submit written comments on a draft permit allowing Chemical Waste Management to expand its hazardous waste landfill in Kings County has been extended to Oct. 25, the Department of Toxic Substances Control said Thursday.
The department has given preliminary permission for Chem Waste to expand by half the size of the company's existing Kettleman Hills landfill near Kettleman City. The state must respond to the comments before issuing a final permit, expected later this year.
The department received requests for more time to comment, media information officer Russ Edmondson said.
