A fire at a northeast Fresno home Sunday evening that caused more than $88,000 in damages is being investigated as an arson case, Fresno Fire Department officials said Monday.
The fire broke out about 6:20 p.m. at 2137 E. Christopher Drive -- just north of Shepherd Avenue and just east of Maple Avenue -- and was first spotted by a neighbor who saw flames and smoke, fire spokesman Keola Park said.
Seventeen firefighters responded to the home, which was spewing heavy smoke from windows and vents when they arrived.
No one was at the home when the fire started, Park said. It's unclear whether the home or property will be declared a total loss.
