An Oakhurst woman traveled Sept. 2 to northern Morocco to help a local organization address issues in youth leadership and development.
Joy Meeker served two weeks as a volunteer for the U.S. Agency for International Development's Farmer-to-Farmer program. The program relies on the expertise of selected mid-career professionals who volunteer from U.S. farms, land grant universities, cooperatives, private businesses and nonprofits to respond to the local needs of farmers, businesses and organizations in developing and transitional countries.
Meeker worked for two weeks with a local organization in Larache, Association Abdessamad Kenfaoui, on ways to improve their training for their 400 youth members.
She worked with over 25 youth members to determine their knowledge and training needs to get jobs and become economic actors and leaders in the community.
