A man is in serious condition after being struck by a pickup Tuesday evening east of Reedley, the California Highway Patrol said.
The 52-year-old man was walking on Dinuba Avenue, east of Englehart Avenue, just before 7:40 p.m. when he was hit by a Toyota Tundra that was traveling west on Dinuba Avenue at approximately 55 mph, CHP Sgt. Shane McConnell said.
The driver, a 29-year-old woman, tried to swerve to prevent hitting the man, who walked into the roadway, but hit him with the right front fender of the pickup, McConnell said.
The man was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno where he is in serious condition with major internal injuries, McConnell said.
The man was intoxicated and told officers he did not know how he ended up in the roadway, McConnell said.
