Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that Peter Mehas died Saturday, based on information from a family spokesman.
Funeral services for longtime Valley educator Pete Mehas will be held Friday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in central Fresno.
The public service will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a private burial, said Charlotte Nunn, a close family friend and former colleague.
Mehas, 73, a Fresno native and four-term Fresno County schools superintendent, died unexpectedly at Saint Agnes Medical Center late Friday from a ruptured thoracic aortic aneurysm.
His death sent shock waves through the community, where friends and colleagues remembered him as a visionary, the life of the party and the community's biggest advocate.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be sent to the church at 2219 N. Orchard St., Fresno, or to Children's Hospital Central California in Madera.
