Fresno's Fugman Elementary named Blue Ribbon School

The Fresno BeeSeptember 25, 2013

James S. Fugman Elementary School in northeast Fresno is the only school in the San Joaquin Valley this year to earn National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognition.

Fugman, in the Clovis Unified School District, was one of 15 schools in California — and 236 public schools and 50 private schools nationwide — to gain the designation from the U.S. Department of Education.

Fugman regularly has the district's highest API test scores and last year reached 987 — 40 points higher than Clovis Unified's second-best scores.

The Blue Ribbon program recognizes schools that are "exemplary high performing," such as Fugman. It also honors schools that show exemplary improvement.

Fugman, along with the other schools, will be recognized in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 18-19.
