One man was severely burned Monday night after an explosion at an apartment complex in Tower District, the Fresno Fire Department said.
The explosion in a second-floor apartment at the two-story building at Olive and Harrison avenues happened about 9:30 p.m. and threw debris from windows and doors into the street, said Battalion Chief Tony Escobedo.
Fire crews were able to contain the two-alarm fire to one room of the eight-unit apartment building. All of the units, however, suffered either fire or smoke damage and the roof was extensively damaged, he said.
The burn victim was found in his underwear outside the apartment by the time fire crews arrived. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, Escobedo said.
The fire displaced seven families. The American Red Cross is assisting them to find shelter.
The cause of the fire and explosion remains unknown, Escobedo said.
