Update: A Tulare County sheriff's deputy fatally shot a suspect who was wanted for an attempted homicide and who fired at the deputy Friday evening, the sheriff's department reported.
When the deputy tried to approach the man at 7:19 p.m. in Ivanhoe, the suspect, who has not been identified, threw a can at the deputy and ran. After a 75-yard chase, the deputy encountered the suspect at the corner of Heather Avenue and Hawthorne Road. The suspect pulled out a handgun and shot at the deputy, who returned fire, the sheriff's office said. The suspect died at the scene.
The Visalia Police Department is conducting the officer-involved shooting investigation.
