Visalia school board, city council on November ballot

Three incumbents serving on the Visalia City Council are facing two challengers in the November off-year elections.

Seeking re-election are Warren Gubler, Steve Nelsen and Greg Collins.

The challengers are Michael Brown, a lawyer and energy adviser, and Vincent Salinas, a business consultant and member of the Visalia Planning Commission.

Candidates are voted on citywide and the top vote-getters win.

Meanwhile, several candidates are seeking election to the Visalia Unified School District Board of Trustees, in which elections are held by area.

In Area 1, incumbent Charles Ulmschneider is being challenged by Elda Balderas, a certified optician.

In Area 2, incumbent Rodney Elder did not seek re-election. Former school board member Juan Guerrero is running unopposed.

In Area 3, incumbent Jim Qualls is running unopposed.

In Area 4, there is no incumbent. David Alviso, a teacher, and John L. Crabtree, a retired businessman, are seeking election.

Oct. 7 is the first day to vote by mail.

The last day to register to vote is Oct. 21.
