Preliminary autopsy results conducted on Madera South High School student Graciela Martinez show that the 14-year-old freshman died of environmental hypothermia, or heat stroke, Madera police said Friday.
Sgt. Robert Salas also said tests by his department showed that there was a problem with the locks on the door of the 1997 BMW that she was found in Wednesday afternoon. Salas said if the car was locked with a key, it would not open from the inside. In addition, the horn did not work without a key in the ignition.
The autopsy results are not final because it takes a least a week for results of toxicology tests to be concluded.
