Solar panels allow Clovis Memorial District to 'go green'

The Fresno BeeSeptember 12, 2013

A new solar power project is being installed for the Clovis Veterans Memorial District.

The system, with steel shade structures in a parking lot, will hold 636 solar panels in the lot bounded by 3rd and 4th streets and Hughes Avenue, across from the Veterans Memorial Building.

"Going green" is the thought expressed by Bruce Thiesen, district manager of the Clovis Veterans Memorial District, who said the roof of the Veterans Memorial Building already holds 586 solar panels. With the additional panels in place, he said the district expects to generate 95% of its energy needs.

The project, which takes up roughly a quarter of a city block, began about 60 days ago and is expected to be completed by the end of September.
