A construction crew ruptured a gas line near a Farmersville elementary school Tuesday morning, forcing 400 students to evacuate.
The rupture occurred about 8 a.m. Tuesday in the street in front of George L. Snowden School, Farmersville Unified superintendent Cristina Luna said.
Students at the grade 2-3 school were sent to the rear playground and buses were called to take them to Hester School, she said. School is canceled for the day and parents have been asked to pick up their children, she said.
About 25 teachers and staff members were also affected.
The construction crew hit a six-inch gas line and capped the leak about 10 a.m., Farmersville Police Chief Mario Krstic said.
No fire occurred and no one was injured, he said.
