A 20-year-old Atwater man is dead after he was thrown from his pickup truck during a solo-vehicle crash near Mariposa early Sunday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.
The man, who has not been identified pending notification of family, was speeding west on Highway 140, west of Agua Fria Road, around 12:45 a.m. when his truck left the road for an unknown reason and traveled up the north shoulder embankment, the CHP said.
The truck overturned several times and the driver, who did not have his seat belt on, was thrown, the CHP said.
The driver sustained major injuries and was taken to John C. Fremont Hospital in Mariposa, where he died.
The crash remains under investigation.
