The Fresno BeeAugust 29, 2013

Ten students from Fresno State and Fresno City College received $1,000 scholarships this week from the League of Women Voters of Fresno.

The recipients are Ariel Hernandez, Raven Kapphahn, Andrew Mokhtar, Lucia Orozco, Karrie Schasteen, Kimberly Wheeler and Shervin Zoghi, all from Fresno State, and Emily Haas, Francisco Salvador and Pa Chia Vang from Fresno City College.

Each scholarship winner has a grade point average of at least 3.5 and shows evidence of involvement in government, natural resources or social policy issues through academic work or community involvement. These are areas of emphasis by the League. Each scholarship winner also has demonstrated financial need.

The scholarships are funded through a generous donation from League member Bette Peterson, childrens book publisher.
