Update: Highway 33 in Firebaugh reopened Wednesday afternoon after a gas line break closed the highway.
Transportation officials said the road was opened around 4 p.m. The closure caused longer bus rides for some students at Firebaugh High School who took alternative routes home, said a district official.
The highway was closed around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday between Morris Kyle Drive in Firebaugh south about 2 miles to Bullard Avenue.
A gas line break on Highway 33 in Firebaugh resulted in a road closure that will last until about 3:45 p.m. Thursday, the California Highway Patrol said.
