U.S. Marines retired Chief Warrant Officer three Dan Payne, left, pins medals on Kenneth Abrahamian, 89, as Abrahamian is recognized for his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II on Tuesday at a ceremony attended by family at the Legion of Valor Museum in downtown Fresno.
Abrahamian served from 1942 through 1946 as a machinist mate third class on the destroyer escort USS Spangler and repair ship USS Ajax.
After leaving the Navy, Mr. Abrahamian went back to farming in Rolinda.
The five medals Abrahamian received are the Philippine Liberation Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the WWII Asiatic Pacific Medal, the Navy Good Conduct Medal and the American Campaign Medal.
The Honorable Discharge Button, Honorable Service Lapel Pin and Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation badge were also presented.
