A fire caused by lightning that was discovered Friday in the Sequoia National Forest east of Porterville had spread to 800 acres and was only 5% contained by Saturday afternoon, the United Forest Service said. The Fish fire is burning in the Golden Trout Wilderness.
An area closure will soon be in place between Burnt Corral Meadow and the Kern River, south of the Kern Ranger Station in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, the forest service said. There are two helicopters, three hand crews, one air attack unit and four air tankers assigned to the Fish fire.
The forest service said resources are stretched because of the number of fires in the western United States.
