Clovis police collecting donations for Scottsmen fire victims

Clovis police have begun accepting donations for the 40 residents displaced in the July 30 fire at Scottsmen Apartments near Willow and Gettysburg avenue, Sgt. Vincent Weibert said.

The fire destroyed 15 apartments and left residents with nearly nothing, including six children ages 3 to 11.

Walmart in Clovis, several residents and police officers have donated items to those affected, Weibert said.

Donations of clothing, furniture and other household items can be taken to the Scottsmen Apartments at 2777 Willow Ave. Monetary donations can be made to the Clovis Police Foundation or online at The foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit for taxable donation purposes.

Donations will be accepted through Sunday.
