Fresno, Clovis, Visalia are among top solar markets

The Fresno BeeJuly 31, 2013

Fresno, Clovis and Visalia all ranked among the top 25 markets in California for residential solar power systems between the first quarters of 2012 and 2013, according to information from Sunible.com.

The number of rooftop solar power projects installed in Fresno grew by 148%, ranking the city at No. 3 in the state behind only San Diego and Bakersfield. Clovis, with growth of 135%, was seventh. Visalia ranked 20th.

Sunible CEO and Fresno native Stephen Torres said much of the growth is attributable to company-owned solar panels, in which the solar company -- and not the homeowner -- owns and maintains the solar panels. Instead of paying to own the system, the homeowner buys electricity from the solar company.
