Richard Gonzalez honored as top Madera County deputy for third time

Richard Gonzales has been named deputy of the year in Madera County -- the third time he has won the award.

“It’s unprecedented,” Sheriff John Anderson said Thursday night at the annual Law Enforcement Appreciation banquet at the Elk’s Lodge in Madera.

Gonzales joined Sheriff’s Department in 2007. Before that he worked for the Madera County Department of Corrections.

At the banquet, Anderson said Gonzales’ colleagues described him as level-headed and as having "a great work ethic.” Gonzales “is the kind of individual we should all want to emulate,” the sheriff said.
