Ex-Clovis East golfer DeChambeau heads to U.S. Amateur

Former Clovis East High golfer Bryson DeChambeau has earned a spot in the U.S. Amateur Championships with a six-stroke victory in a qualifying tournament Monday at Schaffer's Mill Club in Truckee.

DeChambeau, who now golfs for Southern Methodist, finished at 10-under 132. He shot a 67 in the first round and a 6-under 65 in the second to finish ahead of San Francisco's John Sawin and Chico's Williams Flitcroft, who each shot 138 and earned qualifying berths in a playoff.

The U.S. Amateur Championships is Aug. 12-18 in Brookline, Mass.
