Before the Carolina/California League All-Star Game, former Clovis High and Fresno City College standout David Rohm was eager to return to California and play in front of his family and friends.

The outfielder didn't disappoint.

Rohm had a pinch-hit two-run single in the fifth to help the Carolina League All-Stars pull away for a 12-2 victory over the Cal League at Municipal Stadium in San Jose on June 18.

"I felt comfortable playing in front of the home crowd," Rohm said. "I was fortunate enough to get a couple good pitches to hit and I was happy to help Carolina beat California."

Rohm has been instrumental for Lynchburg, his second year with the Atlanta Braves' Class-A affiliate in Virginia. Last season, the ninth-round draft pick from 2010 played in 85 games and helped the Hillcats win the Carolina League championship.

Through Friday's games this season, Rohm was batting .296 in 71 games with three triples and 27 RBIs. He leads the team with 21 doubles.

Question: How did you find out that you were named an All-Star?

Answer: Actually I found unofficially when I heard they were lining up a flight for me to come to California for the game. It was a big relief because it was one of my goals at the start of the year.

What did it mean for you to be named an All-Star?

It meant a lot to be an All-Star. It's a little recognition that my hard work is paying off. I know everyone says that, but it is nice to have some results.

Your team finished second in the first half. That's pretty difficult coming off a championship season, yes?

The first half has been exactly what you expect out of a baseball season. It is always going to have its ups and downs. You just have to set a good routine and go out and battle day in and day out.

How did it feel to return to California and play in front of family and friends?

Coming back to California was great. A lot of my friends haven't got a chance to watch me play because of the expense of traveling cross-country. But this was the perfect chance for them to watch me play and enjoy a fun evening.

How did it feel to be part of the championship team?

The Carolina League championship was a great experience. We really enjoyed the celebration. But it also marked the end of a long, hard-fought season. Most of the guys couldn't wait to get home and relax.

What's the experience been like playing in the Braves organization?

My experience with the Braves system has been great. They have all the tools to make you the best player you can be. They are behind you 100% and they are going to do everything they can to make your experience worthwhile.
