Outstanding Field Event Performer: Matt Bowen
Balanced budget: One of the Central Section's most versatile track and field athletes, he scored 16.5 of the Bears' winning 70 points in the Masters Championships by winning the triple jump (48-1/2), placing fifth in the long jump (22-61/2 ) and running a leg on a gold-medal 1,600 relay (3:17.77). He also ran on a 400 relay that finished with the section's third-best time (42.47) for the season.
Points machine: "Matt was a big team guy. Running both relays, we asked a lot, and he rose to the occasion for sure. He has huge range. The triple is such a technical jump. But he's a smart kid, he's tough, he's talented and he's very committed. He has a lot of desire to be very good." — Bears coach Brian Weaver.
