News & notes

-- Due to extreme fire danger, campfires are prohibited in the Sequoia National Forest and Giant Sequoia National Monument effective this week. Stoves and lanterns with shutoff valves that use gas, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel will be allowed in designated campsites provided the operator possesses a valid campfire permit. Restrictions include the Jennie Lakes and Domelands wilderness areas.

-- An injured rock climber high up on the overhanging Leaning Tower near Bridalveil Fall in Yosemite National Park was rescued Tuesday by members of Yosemite Search and Rescue. Photos of the helicopter rescue can be viewed at www.elcapreport.com.

-- No new reservations are being taken this summer at Sequoia National Park's popular Dorst Creek Campground because the creek that serves as the campground's water source is expected to dry up. Existing reservations will be honored at other park campgrounds.
