Crash east of Clovis sparks fire that threatened homes

Two vehicles crashed east of Clovis on Tuesday afternoon, causing one to hit a power pole, downing lines and sparking a grass fire, a Fresno County fire spokesman said.

The crash reported about 4:40 p.m. ignited the fire, which burned five acres and had threatened five homes near Herndon and Highland avenues, fire Capt. Ryan Michaels said.

Firefighters had the blaze about 75% contained about 5:30 p.m.

However, a power line fell onto a metal fence near a home, Michaels said. Pacific Gas & Electric Co. crews were en route to the fire. The home near the fence and the other homes were not in imminent danger.
