Bass Lake Classic Triathlon

When: Saturday

Where: Pines Resort

Once upon a time (i.e. the early 1980s), Bass Lake hosted the first triathlon national championships. This resurrected event, now in its third year, helps celebrate that legacy on the same course blazed by multisport pioneers Scott Tinley and Scott Molina.

Both Olympic distance (1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike, 10K run) and sprint distance (500-meter swim, 20K bike, 5K run) races are offered. New this year is a 5K kids run. Go to for details or register at before 11:59 p.m. today. Fees increase on race day.

Mud 'n Blood Zombie Run

When: Sunday

Where: The Grove (14265 E. Goodfellow Ave., Sanger)

Enjoy a 5- or 3-kilometer run down tree-lined roads and though blueberry fields, water crossings, numerous obstacles and angry, blood-thirsty zombies. Yes, zombies.

Go to for registration details or stop by either Soul 2 Sole location in Fresno or Visalia. If you dare.
