Former Fresno City Council Member Brian Calhoun was arrested Friday for fighting with a 19-year-old female student at Fresno City College, where he teaches.
In a news release, the college said Calhoun, 69, was arrested and cited for assault and battery. He was then released.
No other details were available and efforts to speak with Calhoun were not immediately successful.
Calhoun made an unsuccessful bid to become a Fresno County supervisor in June 2008 and termed out as a Fresno City Council member in January 2009.
A military veteran, Calhoun served as an intelligence officer in the Army during the Vietnam War era, and spent seven years as a county supervisor in Wisconsin before he resigned to continue his education. He has a doctorate in educational policy studies from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and guides future teachers at Fresno City College. It was not immediately known how long Calhoun has taught at City College.
