Authorities need the public's help in finding the gunman who killed a 19-year-old Madera man in a drive-by shooting Thursday night.

The victim was Robert Moreno III, the Madera County Sheriff's Department reported.

Moreno was shot shortly before 10 p.m. near Avenue 13 1/2 and Cronin Street, southeast of the Madera city limits, sheriff's spokesman Erica Stuart said. It was not known if or why he was a target, she said.

The car used in the shooting is described as a baby blue 4-door Honda Accord with stock rims. It was heading east on Avenue 13 1/2 when the victim was shot while walking west toward a neighborhood mini-mart, Bill's Kwik Stop.

Anyone who may have information is urged to call the Sheriff's Office at (559) 675-7770 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP, which offers up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
