  The more I learn about the Fair Tax, the more I like it. The average taxpayer now pays 7.65% FICA and 25% income tax totaling 33% tax on earned income under the current tax code. We also pay tax on capital gains on investments and dividends on savings, plus an inheritance tax that threatens the family continuity of many small businesses and farms. In addition, we pay the cost of tax compliance and corporate income tax on every "made in the USA" product we buy. Businesses don't pay the tax, they pass the cost on to the consumer.

  The Fair Tax is 23% paid at the cash register for new products and services. Under the Fair Tax, a family of two adults and two children would receive a credit of $29,420 per year covering the cost of tax they spend on essentials. If they spend $60,000 per year, that 23% ends up being 11.5% when you consider the credit. There is no Fair Tax on used goods. Would you rather pay 33% on all earned income or 23% on just what you spend on new goods? I know what makes more sense to me!
