Nearly 1,000 students are expected to attend the Career Skills Challenge today at Fresno City College.

The career-centered event includes 39 competitions involving criminal investigation, sports medicine and culinary arts plus a new category -- robotics. Students from more than 30 schools in Fresno, Madera and Mariposa counties will participate in individual competitions managed by FCC instructors and local business partners.

The competition starts at 9 a.m. and the awards ceremony begins in the college's gym at noon.
