About 1,400 high school Clovis High juniors and seniors Wednesday watched a performance that dramatizes the costs of drunken driving. The Every 15 Minutes presentation used student actors and people from Clovis' police, fire and ambulance services.

Valley prep scholar-athletes win scholarships

The Libertys swept top honors Monday in the Central Section Scholar/Athlete Awards at the River Island Country Club in Porterville.

Dereck Frost of Liberty-Bakersfield and Danielle Devine of Liberty-Madera Ranchos won $1,000 scholarships as the boys and girls winners.

The remaining 10 finalists each won $500 scholarships.

National Day of Prayer observations held at Valley sites

A Christian observance of the National Day of Prayer is at noon Thursday at Clovis City Hall, 1033 Fifth St., and at 6 p.m. at Fresno City Hall, Fresno and P streets.

National Day of Prayer is held the first Thursday in May. This year's theme nationwide is "Pray for America." People are encouraged to pray for the nation.

There will be speakers at the Clovis and Fresno events.
