A disastrous start to the season for the Fresno State baseball team continued Tuesday night as University of the Pacific jumped on the Bulldogs' first four pitchers for 12 hits during a 11-4 loss at Klein Family Field in Stockton.

Fresno State, taking a quick break from conference play after its first Mountain West series this past weekend, is 4-15 overall and 0-9 away from Beiden Field after the first of an eight-game road stretch.

Fresno State tied it 3-3 in the top of the fourth on Brody Russell's three-run home run, his second of the year. The Tigers (7-12) responded with three in the bottom of the fourth -- highlighted by Tyler Sullivan's RBI triple.

Hanford native and top featherweight contender Chad Mendes has a new foe for UFC on FOX 7, an April 20 card at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

Darren Elkins (16-2) is stepping in for Clay Guida, forced to withdraw last week with an injury. Elkins defeated Antonio Carvalho via a first-round TKO at Saturday's UFC 158.

Mendes is 13-1, his loss to champion Jose Aldo.

Bulldogs fall in lacrosse

Kara Concheck had three goals and two assists but Fresno State dropped its lacrosse home opener 16-8 to Cal in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game.

The Bulldogs are 1-4 and 0-2. Megan Takacs and Alexa Rozelle each scored four times for the Golden Bears (4-3, 3-0).

Sequoias halts losing skid

Sequoias ace Leland Tilley helped the Giants snap a six-game slide, pitching an eight-hitter in a 5-1 win over Porterville to open a three-game Central Valley Conference series.

The Northern California No. 15-ranked Giants (10-12, 6-7) scored twice in the second, one on the first of Tyler Newberry's three RBIs.

Tilley (5-2) gave up just an unearned run. Zach Johnson was 4 for 4 for the Pirates (8-12, 4-9).

-- West Hills, looking to gain ground during a bye week for front-running Fresno City, took a step back with an 11-0 loss at No. 17 Merced. The Falcons (10-9, 7-3) had five hits. Ryan McDaniel pitched seven innings of three-hit baseball for the Blue Devils (10-9, 6-4).

-- Michael Vaquera hit a pinch-hit grand slam in a six-run eighth as Taft stunned Reedley 10-5. Richard Roque went 3 for 4 with a two-run homer in a losing cause for the Tigers (6-13). Both teams are 3-7 in the CVC.
